Gluing Down Carpet On Stairs

This is similar to direct glue down installation except that we first glue a pad to the floor and then glue the carpet to the pad.

First lay out the carpet and any padding. Once it is all in place seams flush and no overlapping or short lengths of carpet exposed you can begin to glue the carpet down. Flatten the carpet out using a carpet roller. Stretch and pull the carpet down onto the glue to eliminate wrinkles.

Apply glue to the stair riser if applicable and the tread using the glue trowel. Next you ll need to nail down tackless strips onto each step which is how you ll keep the carpet in place after it s installed. If using a pad glue that down first and then glue the carpet to the pad.

Secure the carpet onto the next tackless strip as you move down the stairs.
